Lecture: Face and Gender: Surgical Approaches and Challenges in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Language: German)

The face reflects the identity of a person. In seconds, we can recognise emotions when looking at the face, but we can also get clues about the state of health, age and gender of our counterpart. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons analyse, preserve, reconstruct or consciously change the identity of patients by performing operations on all structures of the face. Precise knowledge of the different anatomy and structures of the face between women and men is essential for them. Gender differences in the development, diagnosis, treatment and psychological processing after extensive facial surgery present challenges that require individualised surgical solutions.
